About the Artwork:
‘Dropout’ is the word used to describe a person emitted from conformist society, mainly because of difficulties – but it is also used in ‘outside’ societies, such as punk, in the same manner - from the opposite direction; to define someone who abandoned the customary way of community for the benefit of a ‘normal’ life. The work displays this scheme of social belonging as a bidirectional root, a binary equation – a space which you can ‘drop’ into or ‘drop’ out of. Through using well known attributes – like the ‘back-patch’ punks wear with its typical content, the work tries to make a comment about the choices young people make.
